How To Get Good At Anything

I’ve been training boxing on and off for the past three years.

When I first started, I trained with a coach and got decent at it.

Then came a point where I decided to move countries and figured I could handle it on my own so I kept training solo.

I’ve always been consistent with my training so I thought I was still in great shape, conditioning and skill wise.

I wasn’t until I participated in a sparring match and straight up got my ass kicked that I realized that was not the case.

I decided to look for a new coach and pick up 1-1 sessions twice per week.

After some time I stepped back into sparring again. Performed much better but still not quite how I wanted.

So I doubled down and started training four times a week.

Now I’m back to winning rounds consistently.

Two lessons I keep learning over and over again:

  1. If you want to get good at something, do more of it.Reps matter more than theory.
  2. You can’t improve what you don’t test. When I was training alone, I thought I was still sharp. It wasn’t until I got tested that I realized how much I’d slipped.

The same goes for anything that you’re trying to master.

Do more. Test often. Adjust fast.

That’s how you win rounds in life.
