The Game Gets More Fun The Less You Care

Most of my life, I’ve been the guy who cared too much. Obsessing over every little detail and always feeling like I had a chip on my shoulder.

That intensity got me into rooms I had no business being in and kept me there long enough to earn my place.

But at some point, that same obsession became the thing keeping me from reaching the next level.

If I got nine things right and one thing wrong, I would obsess over the one mistake and forget about what I did right. Not realizing the self-imposed pressure to get all ten right was what kept me from doing everything perfectly.

There’s this concept called the Gap and the Gain. You either measure yourself against where you started or against where you want to be.

Funny enough, most high performers tend to live in the gap. I know I’ve been there a lot.

Over the last few months, I realized something shifted.

While I still carry the pressure to do my best, I’ve gotten better at enjoying it instead of focusing on it.

After all, life is a game.

Building yourself. Growing a business. Getting strong. Learning a skill. All of it is a game. And you play games to enjoy them.

Think about the sport you love most. When you actually enjoy playing, it flows. You are more present, more in your body than in your head.

The pressure doesn’t disappear when you enjoy the game. It just stops working against you.

Stop living in the Gap. Start playing.
